Baptism
A Covenant Promise to God
We believe that baptism is a sign of God's covenant with the Church and
is, therefore, necessary for all Christians and a requirement for church
membership.
"In this sacred moment of baptism, we vow, by God's grace,
that this is the place we and our children will grow in faith and come
to know Jesus Christ more fully as part of the people of God."
Infant Baptism
Colonial Church belongs to the branch of the Protestant faith
called the Reformed tradition. In this, we believe that infant baptism
marks a child as a child of the covenant and part of the family of God.
Baptism includes our children as official members of this church family
and asks the congregation to join the child's family in taking responsibility
for the child's welfare.
Adult Baptism
The baptism of adult converts is a powerful symbol of their
passage from their old life under sin to a new life in Christ. We both
sprinkle and immerse adult converts as they request.
Arranging for Baptism
Baptism is offered throughout the church year during
Sunday worship service. Parents and prospective parents are invited
to a baptism class. It will explain
the communal and covenantal character of infant baptism in the Reformed
tradition and answer questions about baptism at Colonial Church. The
classes will also assist parents in making their children's baptism a
living and powerful event. Please call Jenifer Jensen in the church office to see when the next class is.
