Direct Giving
Direct giving is an automatic electronic transfer program
which allows you to make contributions to the Operating Fund of Colonial
without having to withdraw cash or write a check. This option costs
you nothing and saves a lot of time!
Colonial has made available this option of
giving by having funds automatically transfered from your savings or
checking account each month. You can currently be signed up for this
service by talking to Joy Hansen,
Accounting Manager.
Appreciated Stock Giving
Have you ever considered the tax benefits of giving
appreciated stock to fulfill or increase your current Faith Promise? While
gifts of appreciated securities often are used for significant capital
improvement commitments, they also make perfect sense for your Faith Promise.
Donating appreciated stock will cost you less than making the same
donation in cash. If you sell the appreciated stock, you must first pay
the capital gains tax and then donate the after-tax portion. When you
donate "APPRECIATED" stock, you can deduct the "FULL VALUE" of the stock
and "AVOID" paying the capital gains tax. The church receive the full
value of the stock because, as a charitable organization, it is not
required to pay tax.
HOW DO I DONATE STOCK?
If your stock is held by your broker, it is as easy as a telephone call.
Contact Joy Hansen at 952-224-9530 or
jhansen@colonialchurch.org
for Colonial Church's broker account number. You may also
download the stock form. Then you broker merely transfers your stock to
the account at Colonial Church.
If you hold the stock certificate, send your
certificate to Colonial, and we can assist you in signing a stock power
and do the rest
Cash Money
While new online and automatic payment options make giving more
convenient than ever, Colonial still relies heavily on cash donations.
So, if this remains the method you are most comfortable with, continue with
your cash tithes to the church. Giving envelopes are available in the
pews and addressed envelopes can be mailed to anyone requesting them by
contacting
Jim Garvey or Joy Hansen.
Legacy Giving: End of Life Gift
You can make provisions for this gift by
writing a will, with careful thought and planning, and the assistance
of experienced financial and legal advisors. This will provide future
instructions to your family about your wishes for gifts to Colonial
through the Colonial Foundation.
Spontaneous Gifts: Special Offerings
By now, many are familiar with the
various efforts that raised dollars for the deferred maintenance
needs of our building. While improvements and repairs are under way, it
is not too late to make a donation to the general fund and designate the
gift for general maintenance. We have done much, but there is much more
to do.
